Assessment

At Newnham Croft assessment is seen in many forms, from teacher judgements, marking, peer assessments, pupils own self-assessment, and testing of different types. We more formally assess all the pupils at the end of each term in Reading, Writing and Maths using test materials which are appropriate and standardised for each year group. These assessments support our ongoing classroom assessments and help shape the future work for the children and the use of any interventions needed to support learning.
Statutory Assessment

During the Reception year all pupils are assessed against the Early Learning Goals and these assessments are communicated to parents during parent consultations and in writing at the end of the year.

At the end of Year 1 all pupils will also take the Phonics screening check and these results are reported to parents with the end of year report. This assessment is helpful in identifying which pupils will need further phonics support in Year 2 (where they will be retested at the end of that year.

At the end of KS1 (Year 2) all pupils will take the KS1 SATs tests for Reading and Maths, these will be used to support teacher assessment judgements in Reading, Writing and Maths.

At the end of Year 4 all pupils will take the National Multiplication check, the results of which will be reported to parents in the end of year report.

At the end of KS2 (Year 6) all pupils will take the KS2 SATs tests in Reading, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Maths. These results will be reported alongside moderated teacher assessments in Writing.
